How Do You Paint Metal Guttering?
It’s rather simple to paint the metal guttering on your home yourself. It’s safest and easiest to do this work on the ground rather than painting your gutters in-situ.
The first step before painting metal guttering is to thoroughly clean the gutters. This can be done using a soft cloth along with mild detergent and lukewarm water.
Once your metal guttering is wonderfully clean, it will need to be sanded and primed before painting. Strip away any paint and use sandpaper or a sanding tool to smooth the surface. Please note that we don’t recommend you remove the galvanised coating on our steel guttering. Instead, try to purchase a gutter in your preferred colour.
We’d recommend using a paint that is specially designed for use on metal, ideally with anti-rust properties. If you choose an oil-based paint, this may not need priming.
Which is Better for Me? Steel or Copper Guttering?
Both steel and copper guttering are fantastic options designed to suit a wide range of property styles. Steel is incredibly hardy and durable, whereas copper is more resistant to corrosion. The primary differences between the two are price and aesthetics. Steel gutters are definitely the more cost-effective option, whereas copper guttering can cost up to £50 per lineal metre. Our range of galvanised steel gutters are available in a range of colours, but copper offers an unmatched traditional aesthetic, along with a gorgeous patina as it ages. So the right choice for you depends largely on your budget and personal taste.
