                    Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Use Hollow Soffit Board as Cladding?

No, hollow soffit boards aren’t appropriate for use as cladding. They’re not UV treated, nor durable enough for this usage. Hollow soffit should only be used for its intended purpose to finish the weatherproof seal under the roofline between the fascia and your walls. If you’re looking for cladding, we also stock a wide range of external wall cladding.

How Do You Fit Hollow Soffit Boards?

Hollow soffit is incredibly simple to install yourself, thanks to their “tongue and groove” design. Always remember to allow 5-10% wastage when you order.

                    1. First, check the surfaces along your roofline to ensure they’re even and you have no loose boards or guttering.
                    2. Next, remove the first and second (if necessary) row of roof tiles, along with old fascia, soffits, bargeboards, and guttering.
                    3. Ensure that there is adequate support for the new soffits, such as hangers or a noggin.
                    4. Measure the area beneath the eaves, which should be around 12 inches.
                    5. Cut your soffit boards to the necessary size using a hand saw.
                    6. Now, fix them to the timber at 90 degrees to the wall using our range of soffit nails with 12 inches between each nail.
                    7. If you’re fitting boards around the corner of your home, leave a gap of around a quarter of an inch to account for walls expanding.
                    8. Make sure to leave a gap between each hollow soffit board so that a joint trim can be fitted, along with a 1cm gap to allow the material to expand.
                    9. Finish by installing your joint trims and end caps for a clean, modern finish to your roofline.
