Frequently Asked Questions
Can I replace my old roof dome with one of these?
Yes, in most cases. Many of the domed rooflights we stock are sized to fit standard builder’s kerbs, making them ideal for replacements. Just double-check the dimensions of your existing opening and whether the upstand is still sound. If not, look for a model with an integrated kerb.
Are domed rooflights noisy in the rain?
They can be louder than flat glass units, especially in heavy downpours. Polycarbonate doesn’t absorb sound in the same way glass does - something to bear in mind if the room below is a living space or bedroom.
Will a domed unit look bulky on the roof?
Domes naturally sit a little higher than flat rooflights, but most are designed with a low-profile frame to reduce the visual impact. For discreet installs, check the overall height including the upstand.
Can I walk on a domed rooflight?
No - these aren't walk-on units. If your roof is used as a terrace or balcony, you’ll need a product specifically rated for foot traffic.
