2021's Biggest Sustainable Building Trends Revealed

Our research has revealed that synthetic slate roof tiles as the front runner, receiving 252% more searches in 2020 than 2019, and experiencing almost 100% more growth than traditional concrete tiles. Crafted from a mix of recycled limestone and plastic, these sustainable roof tiles are incredibly popular amongst homeowners for their light weight, longevity, and simple installation. Other green choices sharing the top spots in the top 15 sustainable building materials increasing most in popularity in 2020 include energy saving windows, eco-friendly insulation, cedar shingles, and rammed earth.

As well as building materials, our research also looked into construction styles and philosophies, including regenerative building design, which saw an incredible 600% increase. Brits are also expressing hugely increased interest in concepts such as regenerative architecture, zero carbon building, passive housing, and more.
