Frequently Asked Questions

Is OSB Waterproof?

OSB, and in particular OSB3 boards are highly water resistant thanks to the cocktail of waxes and resins used in their construction. However, OSB boards are not fully waterproof and should not be used in an environment where they are exposed to large amounts of water such as rainfall.

Is OSB Stronger Than Plywood?

OSB or sterling boards are much stronger than plywood thanks to the many strands of wood that are compressed together at very high temperatures to provide much greater structural integrity. Not only this, OSB sheets can be worked with at length without compromising their strength. Whether you’re gluing, sawing, drilling or nailing.

Can I Use OSB Board Outside?

OSB shouldn’t be used externally. While higher grades of OSB board such as OSB3 and OSB4 are designed for greater moisture resistance, they are not designed to be waterproof or exposed to the elements.
